What is Electrical Safety
Training?
Electrical Safety Training is
essential to enable professionals to work safely in electrical installations
and services, aims to disseminate knowledge about electrical hazards and
appropriate control measures, with the main purpose of preventing accidents and
protecting the health and safety of workers exposed to electricity.
What does the acronym NR 10 stand for?
NR 10 is a regulatory standard of the Ministry of Labor and Employment
(MTE) of Brazil that establishes the minimum requirements and conditions for
the implementation of control measures and preventive systems, in order to
ensure the safety and health of workers who interact directly or indirectly
with installations and services with electricity. This standard covers the
minimum requirements and conditions for the implementation of control measures
and preventive systems, in order to ensure the safety and health of workers
who, directly or indirectly, interact with electrical installations and
services with electricity. Establishes minimum requirements for the
qualification, qualification, training and authorization of workers who perform
activities and services in electrical installations, as well as defines work
procedures, control measures, collective and individual protective equipment,
signaling, inspections, projects and documentation.
Why Does Humidity Pose a Risk
in Electrical Installations and Services?
Humidity poses a significant risk
in electrical installations and services for several reasons:
Electrical conductivity:
Water is a good conductor of electricity, especially when it has dissolved
salts. In the presence of moisture, the electrical resistance of the insulation
of equipment and installations is reduced, increasing the risk of electric
shock and short circuits.
Corrosion: Moisture can
cause corrosion on electrical components such as wires, cables, fittings, and
equipment. Corrosion deteriorates electrical insulation, exposing live parts
and increasing the risk of accidents.
Short circuit: The water
present in the premises can come into contact with live parts, causing short
circuits. These short circuits can generate electric arcs, fires, and
explosions.
Electrical discharges: Moisture
increases the likelihood of electrical discharges, as it facilitates the
formation of conductive pathways between energized parts. These discharges can
cause electric shocks and burns to workers.
Mold and mildew: In humid
environments, the development of mold and mildew can deteriorate the insulation
of electrical equipment and installations. This increases the risks of failures
and accidents.
For these reasons, the presence of
humidity in electrical environments and installations requires special care,
such as the adoption of protection, isolation and preventive maintenance
measures, in order to mitigate the associated risks.
